Jennifer Sky is a writer of both fiction and nonfiction, and a believer in magical things. She is a former model and actress. Her work has recently appeared online in Tin House, The Daily Beast, Guernica, The Rumpus, Interview Magazine, Vol.1 Brooklyn and others. She is a Contributing Editor for One Teen Story and lives in Brooklyn.
As a model: From age 15, Jennifer traveled extensively and worked for such magazines as SEVENTEEN, YM, ALLURE, ELLE, VOGUE BAMBINI, was on several covers including SASSY and MAXIM, and did campaigns for CALIFORNIA TAN, PEPE JEANS, DANNON, BABY RUTH, and FORD. At nineteen she returned to New York to study acting, then relocated to Los Angeles for a contract roll on GENERAL HOSPITAL.
As an actress: She worked on BUFFY, THE VAMPIRE SLAYER, CSI: LAS VEGAS, CHARMED, had reoccurring characters on CSI: MIAMI, FASTLANE, XENA, and was the title character on cult Sci-Fi series CLEOPATRA 2525. Additionally, she shot such movies as SHALLOW HAL, MY LITTLE EYE and NEVER DIE ALONE, among others. See Jennifer’s complete acting resume below.
As a writer: Jen began studying writing with Tod Goldberg and PEN nominee Samantha Dunn at UCLA where she focused on memoir and went on to study YA fiction with Francesca Lia Block. In 2010, she moved to New York City to attend The New School’s Riggio Honors Writing Program and study with authors such as Mary Gaitskill, Sigrid Nunez, Paul Violi and Elizabeth Gaffney, and is currently an MFA candidate in fiction at Brooklyn College. She is a Contributing Editor for One Teen Story and a Contributor for Interview Magazine, in addition to working as a freelance writer.
Because of an illness Jennifer has since recovered from, she became very involved in the organ donation community, specifically Donate Life America, the nonprofit charity branch of the United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS). She has written broadly about the necessity for universal health care.
